We often link webpages to external resource to provide valuable information to the readers. External links you makes from your webpage are either no follow or do follow. The links which you makes do follow usually distribute your links juice to external sources while no follow links are used if you don’t want to affect your Page Rank.
By adding a dofollow link to your webpage, you actually tells Google to follow the particular link. In other way, you are telling Google to give some your webpages’ link juice to external link. On the other hand, if you use nofollow links on webpage, it tells Google to not to follow the external link at all.
Why we need to use nofollow links for external websites:-
The nofollow or dofollow are not defined in html language at all. But, are recommended by Google to use. As these links help Google to understand whether to follow any external link or not.
Having a nofollow link on your webpage helps Google Spiders to understand that you don’t have any connection to that webpage or you don’t approve that link either. Hence, to not follow that link.
There are several factors behind the scene. There are occasions when you write articles or promoting any affiliate product on your site. This time, you need to link your website to that site.
Reason behind adding nofollow link is that the external webpage to which you are linking may be a spammy site or less reputed one than your site. If you add dofollow link to such site, it tells Google to distribute some of your link juice to such site also.
Next, Google may also penalize your website for linking to spammy site as Google takes spam very seriously.
By adding nofollow link, you make sure that Google will not take it negatively and will not penalize you for linking to such sites. Next, your webpage juice will not be distributed at all thus not effecting Page Rank.
Example of nofollow links:-
<a href=”http://www.WebLogCentral.com/” rel=”nofollow”>WebLogCentral</a>
Example of dofollow links:-
<a href=”http://www.WebLogCentral.com rel=”dofollow”>WebLogCentral</a>
