If you a blogger, you might want to verify you website to search engines. Being a blogger, you want that you blog should be searchable on the internet. This is main source of traffic. Creating a website and putting contents on it is not sufficient. You need to fulfill several requirements to make your blog popular and discoverable to the search engines.
For beginners, this may be a serious problem to how to verify your site to Google Webmaster Tool. But, it is not that much hard. In fact, it looks so easy and we can do it in few steps only. But before we begin, you might want to know, you have been continuously hearing from peoples to submit your blog to Google Webmaster Tool.
Why we need to submit our site to Google:-
When newbies create blog, they thing that creating a blog is everything. But that’s not true. We need to do many efforts to ensure that Google know about our site. We need to submit our site to them. This way they can crawl our site and find contents for user’s query. We need to do this for every search engine where we wish to index our website. I have already written how to submit sitemap to Google Webmaster Tool to ensure that they know about articles on my website or blog.
How to submit your site to Google Webmaster Tool:-
Before we begin, note that you should be administrator of your blog or website. There are different type of role of users on the blog including author, subscriber, editor and administrator. Now, follow these easy steps to verify your site with the Google Webmaster tool:-
1. Sign in to your Google Webmaster Tool account through Gmail
2. After singing in, you need to click on ADD SITE button and add your website URL.
Now, you have submitted your website to Google Webmaster Tool. Next step you need to take is to verify that it is your site.
Verify by uploading html file to root directory:-
In this method, you need to verify your site by uploading downloaded html document in the root directory of your website. You can use FTP client tool like FileZilla to upload file or you can directly login to your hosting account and upload it manually. It depends on your hosting companies configurations of file manager.
Verify from WordPress Dashboard:-
What if you are a newbie or you don’t want to mess with these advance techniques. If you have self-hosted WordPress Blog or site then you verify your site in easy steps. Go to your Google Webmaster account verification page and click on alternative method. Choose first option Html tag and expand it. Copy the verification code only.
Now follow steps:
1. Go to your WordPress Dashboard
2. Click on Tools> Available tool
3. In the box, Google Webmaster Tools paste the code you copied recently.
Now come back to Google Webmaster Tool verification page and click on verify. Your site is now verified.
If there any error occurs, Google will inform you about. Next step is to submit your sitemap to Google Webmaster Tool for indexing your posts and pages in their search results.
